Have a Nooka Christmas this Year!

Posted: 09 Dec 2011 08:24 AM PST

Matthew Waldman started Nooka as a platform to incorporate his graphic designing skills and take forward what he had begun with Seiko. With initial steps like retailing at MoMA and support from fellow designers, there was no looking back for this industrious creative genius. Today Nooka Watches stand for creative time telling…you sure want to own a piece or share this modern legacy with your family and friends.

The YD Store has a collection of Nooka options to pick from, so indulge in some retail therapy while having a Nooka Christmas!

Nooka Edwin DeLaRosa Zub Zoo

This creative watch is a part of the Limited Edition timepieces customized by 4 BMX athletes who represented Nooka's Mindstyle Philosophy. Edwin Delarosa utilizes all the elements of living in an urban environment to an advantage when riding. His zub zoo 20 gives the illusion of concrete with custom designed elephant print.

Nooka Mike Spinner Zub Zot

Mike Spinner burst onto the BMX scene in 2006 by winning the Free Flow Tour and has pulled off tricks that have never been done before, such as the 1080, 720 tailwhip, and the quad whip. Mike is also sponsored by Monster and his custom zot black watch features a Monster light green face. The 12 dots represents the current hour, while the horizontal bar displays the minutes, with a small window displaying seconds underneath. Set on top of a polyurethane band, the Zot features an alarm and chronograph mode.

Nooka Morgan Wade Zub ZenH

Resting on a 38mm polyurethane band, the Zub Zen-H displays time in Nooka’s own unique way. On the top two rows the Zen-H shows the current hours, while in the third row it displays minutes and the fourth row features the seconds. The Zen-H also features both an alarm and a chronograph mode.

Nooka Steve McCann Zub Zot

The Zot presents a truly unique yet intuitive way of reading time. The 12 dots represents the current hour, while the horizontal bar displays the minutes, with a small window displaying seconds underneath. Set on top of a polyurethane band, the Zot features an alarm and chronograph mode.

Nooka Vans Warped Tour Zub Zirc

The Zirc combines the familiarity of a clock face with Nooka’s intuitive concept of time. Reading like an analog watch, the 12 dots represent hours while the horizontal row counts minutes, with a small window counting up the seconds. The Zirc face rests on a 20mm polyurethane band and features an alarm mode as well as a chronograph mode.

Nooka Zub Zoo Black

The Nooka Zoo can be read similarly to a traditional digital watch, but with an innovated Nooka twist. The large window displays the hour, while to read the minutes you need to view the horizontal bar on top and the seconds is displayed on the smaller window. The Zoo also features a chronograph and alarm feature.

Spring Power Forever

Posted: 09 Dec 2011 02:30 AM PST

It's quite the trend to look for ways to extend the life of a battery, be it a AAA, AA or even the D-size. What we have here today is the ONE=TWO – Spring Battery. The design is quite self explanatory, so my question for you today is this: is it worth extracting every ounce of juice from discarded batteries in comparison to the production of such extracting devices? What do you say…..

One = Two is a 2011 red dot design concept winning entry.

UNStudio = UNBelievable!

Posted: 09 Dec 2011 12:02 AM PST

UNStudio is at it again with this ambitious vertical city concept designed for Singapore’s cultural hub. Scotts Tower attempts to redefine the way architects approach modern high-rise residential architecture by reframing public spaces in an aesthetically provocative way. Whether or not a controversial design such a this gets a green light is another story. We can only hope so!

Neighborhoods in the Sky
The concept of The Scotts Tower is that of a vertical city incorporating a variety of residence types and scales. In addition, outdoor green areas in the form of sky terraces, penthouse roof gardens and individual terraces form an important element of the design. The vertical city concept is interpreted on the tower in three scales; the “city”, the  “neighborhood” and the “home”. The three elements of the vertical city concept along with the green areas are bound together by two gestures: the “vertical frame” and the “sky frames”.
The vertical frame organizes the tower architecturally in an urban manner. The frame affords the tower the vertical city effect by dividing the four residential clusters into different neighborhoods.
The sky frames – at the lobby (Level 1 & Level 2) and sky terrace (Level 25) – organize the amenity spaces and green areas of the tower.

Customised living
The four residential clusters are each designed for versatile and customized living. Individual identity is given to each unit by means of type, scale, distribution and articulation of outdoor space, along with the possibility for personalization of the interior layout; by means of a semi-white plan, residents will be given the freedom to configure their personal living spaces according to their lifestyles and aspirations.
The individual articulation of each cluster within the main framework of the tower is directly related to the organization and materialization of the terrace spaces. These varied outdoor spaces afford a choice of views, with corner terraces providing both cityscape panoramas and vistas over the natural landscape adjacent to the building.

City Loft, City View, Park View and Penthouses
Situated above the lower sky frame, the hundred and twenty-eight City Loft residences in the first cluster occupy the lower sixteen floors of the tower.
The second cluster offers a total of eighty City View units distributed in two clusters. The first cluster shares the first sixteen floor plates with the City Loft residencies. While the second cluster of forty eight units runs above the previous package.
Park View units form the next cluster above the second sky frame, covering five floors and containing twenty units. Crowning the tower is the final cluster containing one floor of three exclusive Penthouse residences.

Gardens, recreation and Sky Frames
The nearby green area to the West of the tower is extended into The Scotts Tower site initially by means of a ground level landscape concept designed by Sitetectonix. This ground level concept incorporates a multi-layered environment which links together the different zones and recreational facilities available to the residents. Recreational facilities within the gardens include a 50 meter lap pool with sunning deck, a children's pool, a wellness pool, dining & BBQ pavilions, a meeting pavilion and massage and gym pavilions.

Interfacial Improvements

Posted: 09 Dec 2011 12:01 AM PST

The Picostorm Alpha Project aims to improve the intuitiveness and easy of navigation displaying both informational & interactive data on existing large platforms like Facebook & Google. The interface is split into two core features: a super nifty “waterfall” interface on the left side that provides clearly defined shortcuts to messages, notifications and address book/contact information, and a contextually-aware floating dashboard through which a person interacts with messages, photos, videos and other content.

Alien Artifact or Lamp?

Posted: 09 Dec 2011 12:01 AM PST

The TOTO Twins lamp series looks more like missing components to an alien spacecraft than a lamp! You’ll dig this lamp if you’re into futuristic style that’s even a little strange. The first of the two lamps consists of two sculptural parts and an asymmetrical “head” that rotates to create various levels of light intensity. The second lamp’s fluid, metallic top hovers above and appears to drip onto the industrial looking sculptural body below.
