Posted: 08 Dec 2011 03:30 AM PST So, you and the family is going on this big vacation and just as you finish locking up everything and shut the main door, your wife calls out – hon, did you check the gas and switch-off all the lights? Sounds familiar? How about if you had the 'Off' installed! It is a door handle with connections to your mains like gas supply and electricity. Simply switch off both or either one of the services by rotating the dial and flip it back to activate it all. Super cool and innovative I tell ya! Off is a 2011 red dot design concept winner. Posted: 08 Dec 2011 01:03 AM PST Keeping with the tradition of simplistic minimal design, Sang-hoon Lee has designed his vision for the Apple Headphones. Looks more like a hairband with a sleek finish. I think the touch of volume controls within the glowing apple logo is just too clever! Designer: Sang-hoon Lee ---------- |
Age-old Material Meets Modern Design Posted: 08 Dec 2011 12:01 AM PST After self-producing two pneumatic extruders to push soft clay through die, designer Max Cheprack put them to use, gently manipulating the material with great precision and complexity. This Clay Stool design is just one result of the process and represents not only a culturally historic material of the designer’s homeland, but also new possibilities in ceramic design and production. Posted: 08 Dec 2011 12:01 AM PST Winning this year’s Plastics Industry Award for Product Design of the Year is this genius adjustable rowing shoe. Before, shoes had to be manufactured in a range of sizes, meaning rowers had to put up with the wrong size or take time to swap out. Also, previous models of fixed shoes couldn’t be washed & would often end up smelly & unhygienic. The Active Tools 2k Rowing Shoe addresses these problems by being adjustable to the rower’s size & having an outer shell molded from soft EVA/TPO foam so they can be kept clean. Posted: 08 Dec 2011 12:01 AM PST The Desert Storm lamp’s use of sand as the main material provides an organic feel in both appearance and touch. The shape of these sand-molded lamp shades brings to mind primitive dessert dome dwellings and the fixture’s overall figure resembles plants that blossom near the Mediterranean seashore. Though they look fragile, the shades’s strength partners with that of the fixture’s metal pole. Designer: Nir Meiri ---------- |
