Liquid Measure with a Precise Tilt Posted: 29 Nov 2011 01:11 AM PST The Angle is a handy measuring jug based on the property of liquids taking shape of their containers. So instead of keeping the jug on a flat surface and filling contents till eye-level, you can easily pour out the required measure. Basically the design features diagonal lines that indicate quantities during pouring. The designer explains, "The measurement units relate to practical kitchen measuring systems such as a cup, a glass, or a tablespoon. Angel indicates a 200mL volume as the amount between two long diagonal markings. The volume contained by a long marking and a short one is 100mL." Very simple and neat, I can't wait to try this red dot winning concept in my kitchen! Designer: Umut Demirel ---------- |
Posted: 29 Nov 2011 01:01 AM PST Adding a dash of technology to the traditional lifesaver ring is this intelligent concept called RC – Controlled Life Buoy. As the name suggests, it is a saving ring that can be controlled by the lifeguard using radio controllers. The idea is to help make the rescue operation swifter and lessen the stress of the person in the water. RC – Controlled Life Buoy is a 2011 Liteon Award entry. Posted: 29 Nov 2011 12:02 AM PST The Light Form is more than just an ordinary desk lamp, it’s a way to personalize the unique taste and feel of lighting for every different person while simultaneously strengthening the bond between user and object. Simply punch your fist into the LED wiring to leave an impression only you could make! Though it appears imbalanced, the form of the frame was taken from Buckminster Fuller’s geometric dome and is composed entirely of triangles, making it completely and evenly weight balanced. Posted: 29 Nov 2011 12:01 AM PST The organic form of the Bagno Sasso Ocean Wing and larger Ocean Wave bathtubs is made possible by using thermoformed Corian. Here, the versatile material’s shape emulates water waves and is an elegant textural and visual contrast to the natural, warm wood base. Designer: Manuel Dreesmann ---------- |
Modern Tram with Ancient Influence Posted: 29 Nov 2011 12:01 AM PST This electric passenger tram was designed to link the Libyan cities of Benghazi and Tripoli, two areas currently plagued with traffic congestion. The tram is characterized by a simple, modern aesthetic but also takes inspiration from Libya’s cultural heritage, incorporating shapes and patterns like the moucharabieh, a common element of traditional Arabic architecture since the middle ages. I’ve looked at thousands of products this year so it was harder than usual narrowing down the group into this curated gallery of what I think are the most beautiful, interesting, unique, mind blowing and innovative products in the market. Give a little to yourself, give a lot to others. Happy Holidays! ---------- |
Posted: 28 Nov 2011 01:25 AM PST It's quite the trend to have suitcases with an expandable hood to accommodate more clothes and stuff. However very few have stopped to consider vacuum packing clothes, to make more space. The Pumpack is one such suitcase design where it includes a pump that helps to compress clothes to make more packing room. For those who are going to complain about creases, I suggest you carry a travel iron. I for one think we need to develop this design thoroughly! Pumpack is a 2011 red dot design concept winner. Pedal Your Way to Fitness and Light! Posted: 28 Nov 2011 01:19 AM PST The idea behind Healthy Electricity, a stationary bike, is nothing new. It converts kinetic energy into electric energy, to juice up your gadgets and maybe work small lamps etc. What's cool is the implementation of the idea and the final outcome of the bike. The sleek form makes it easy to fit into any household and tempt you enough to at least get fit and electric! Healthy Electricity is a 2011 Liteon Award entry. Public Spaces and Not So Boring Furniture Posted: 28 Nov 2011 12:37 AM PST The Furniture Collection by Arco da Velha, a Portuguese design furniture brand, has launched a new set of products for public spaces and and domestic environments. There’s a consistency in the minimal design which quite frankly looks better than most public space furnishings. There’s something juvenile about the way the color palette jumps off these very linear lines. It feels lighter, less cosmetic because if all this stuff were in black and white, it would look like my dentist’s office. Designer: Arco da Velha ---------- |
Posted: 28 Nov 2011 12:29 AM PST One of our favorite companies ZIIIRO just released the latest star from their cosmic laboratory called “Celeste.” The instantly recognizable design combines 2 previous concepts into one so the hour and minute demarcation is more clearly defined. It works by two overlapping transparent discs to create a fluid gradient as time passes. It comes in 4 different colors but 2 are already sold out. Why am I not surprised. This is a hot item which is also why it’s included in our holiday gift guide. Designer: Robert Dabi ---------- |
