The Dispensable Tag

Posted: 09 Apr 2014 02:31 AM PDT

The elaborate tags that accompany new clothes are a necessary evil. Once you've snipped them off your new purchase, they find their way to the bin and that's the end of them. To make their life more useful, here is an idea of using soapy soluble, printable strips that can be added as detergent, to the first wash. Interesting idea that is worth exploring! What do you think?

Hang Tag is a 2014 iF Design – Concept Design entry.

Lord Of The Sign Rings

Posted: 09 Apr 2014 02:26 AM PDT

Sign Language Ring is a set of rings and a bracelet capable of detecting sign language and translating them. Essentially, the device is able to detect sign language motions and can translate them to voice feedback. Conversely, it can translate voice to text. Inspired by the Buddhist prayer beads, the text is displayed on a screen on the top of the bracelet.

  • Sign Language Ring is a translation device in the form of a bracelet with detachable rings.
  • When worn on the fingers of the person using sign language, the rings detect and track the signing motions.
  • These are translated to voice, which is emitted by the bracelet.
  • The user can pre-record their signing movements and assign the appropriate words, which allows the system to be customized to the user's particular gestures.
  • After use, the rings can be set into the bracelet for storage.

The Sign Language Ring is a 2013 Red Dot Award: Design Concept Winner.

What a Crossover Should Be

Posted: 09 Apr 2014 12:01 AM PDT

The Komodo channels the same fierce power and tough aesthetic of the Mahindra brand’s famous trucks and tractors. The concept is in like with crossovers like the BMW X6 or Infiniti FX, but purposely lacks the delicacy and refinement that makes the other’s owners cringe at the though of driving through a puddle. Instead, its rough-and-tumble character begs for the off-road and is happier towing toys and getting dirty than cruising down the boulevard!

Living Skyscraper

Posted: 09 Apr 2014 12:01 AM PDT

Take a walk through it and you might not even realize you’re not in a scenic park but rather a mega skyscraper. It’s called Re-Silience— living architecture that uses as much (or even more) area for green spaces as the structure’s footprint takes up in land space. Inspired by honeycombs, coral reefs, and ant nests, the design is focused on optimal use of soil and biomass that’s normally lost in urban environments. It’s not only eco-concious, but as beautiful as a stroll through the park!
