Posted: 19 Mar 2013 07:01 AM PDT Once in awhile I get a gem in my mailbox, a jewel so beautifully crafted, so perfectly engineered, and so vividly different that I openly say “wow” as I read about it. It’s a gentle reminder why I do this blog. AÃRK Collective is a small team of designers and entrepreneurs based in Melbourne who are trying to redefine the way we see time. The inaugural range comprises of three silhouettes that aim to showcase a perfect harmony between form and function. Meet Classic, Timeless, and Iconic. Each design is shaped by their appreciation for minimal design, geometric shapes and graphic elements. They recognise that a watch is more than an instrument to tell time, but an object of desire that tells a story about the individual wearer. I got my hands on two of these watches for a proper review so keep your eyes peeled for more to come from this talented group. Designers: AÃRK Collective, Facebook - Related posts: |

Posted: 19 Mar 2013 05:14 AM PDT Imagine a world where the sight impaired can read almost any publication without it being specially printed in Braille. It will not only save the cost of a specialized printing but also make a lot more reading material accessible to the blind. The Blind Reader is a device that looks like a smartphone but functions like a text-to-Braille converter. Simply skim it over the paper publication and the surface transforms to Braille that can be easily read. Simple, effective and portable! Designers: Jia Mengyin & Bao Haimo - Related posts: |
Posted: 19 Mar 2013 04:30 AM PDT The kind of packaging redesign suggested with the UP is very convenient for the Pizza Pies that I buy from McDonalds. Where here it is intended for the fast food Apple Pie, the incisions in this package make it easy to handle and cool the pie while eating. UP is an apple pie package with incisions that allow the user to push the pie up and out of the package without burning their hands. The incisions also allow heat to escape from the package more easily so the pie can be eaten sooner. UP is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner. Posted: 19 Mar 2013 12:40 AM PDT Kerosene stoves are popular with the rural folks, especially in Africa and India. Although they provide a cheaper option to cooking, most of the stove designs have this danger of bursting into flames or causing an explosion. The Indaba Kerosene Stove is a sleeker and safer cooking stove that employs several safety mechanisms. Features:

Posted: 19 Mar 2013 12:22 AM PDT Nest is a very playful air mattress that transforms into a zippy boat by manipulating the internal hooks. I love the visual delight that the network of red ropes and spring hooks conjure. They allow NEST's internal structure to be changed and this can be done intuitively. You can hook and unhook ropes without needing to touch them directly; for the air mattress just manipulate the spring hooks while fewer hooks are needed for the boat. Ahoy captain! Posted: 19 Mar 2013 12:02 AM PDT The Serendipity Emotion Player is not your regular shuffle that plays music by genre or albums. It takes into account your emotional status by interpreting the color that your subconscious mind chooses and then plays songs accordingly. The player is equipped with a camera and the user is supposed to point it towards a colored object, for example if my mind takes fancy to the apple and I point the player towards it; the device interprets my mood based on the color therapy practice and plays songs accordingly. As the name suggests, the Serendipity player hopes to play songs according to your mood and in lay terms, it is aimed to give the user the pleasure disguised as coincidence. Posted: 18 Mar 2013 01:29 PM PDT Three weeks ago I reached out to Oral-B to review the Deep Sweep 5000, their top of line electric toothbrush. After brushing twice a day, everyday for 2 minutes at a time, I sit here writing to you with whiter teeth, a brighter smile, and confidence to walk into my next dentist appointment with no fear of hearing, “oh you should brush more often.” Hit the jump for my review. The start of the new year prompted my search for products that could make 2013 better than 2012 and part of that initiative is proper health and hygiene. I’ve always been an avid brusher but manual brushing requires proper form and execution. The Deep Sweep 5000 takes care of both those points by doing all the work for you. The head pulses 40,0000 times and conducts 8,800 sweeps per minute. Manually I could only manage 113 sweeps per minute. Add that to the recommended brushing time of 2 minutes and the Deep Sweep clearly out performs manual brushing. Those 2 minutes are key to cleaner, whiter teeth. The Deep Sweep comes with a handy Wireless SmartGuide, a companion LCD display that conveniently divides up your mouth into 4 quadrants, brushing each one for 30 seconds before an audible beep tells you to move on. Standby time was excellent, working for nearly 8 days instead of the advertised 10 before juicing up on the included induction charger. Of course that all depends on which of the 5 brushing modes you use. I generally kept mine on daily cleaning but other modes like deep clean and whitening use more power because the motor augments the speed at which the bristles sweep. My official verdict? Love it. My teeth are definitely whiter just from 3 weeks of use. Of course there’s a tiny bit of staining that only a dentist equipped with bleach and lasers can remove but the Deep Sweep 5000 is the perfect mini dentist in between visits. It retails for $133 on Amazon and that’s a steal when you consider the comparable competitor is closer to $200. Designer: Braun $133.00 - Related posts:
