A Different Camera Perspective

Posted: 30 Oct 2012 10:43 AM PDT

The FANs Cam is a pint-sized camera that brings more to the table than being just a spectator. The mini camera clips onto the collar of a sports player's uniform and hooks up a livefeed to the fan on the stands. It gives the fan a perspective of the game that they've never experienced before. The video is accessible after a simple scan of the QR code printed on the back of the game's ticket. You get the option of picking your favorite player using the smart phone, and get instant access to what that player sees.

It even functions as a performance recorder for the athletes; they can play back the recorded videos to review the game. Athletes or the coaches can then identify their strengths and weaknesses and develop their training program accordingly. Coaches could also alter their team's strategy mid-game based on views from different players.

The camera is user-safe and crafted with an exterior shell made of rubber. It is made from a lightweight and elastic clip form and the aluminium offers thermal conductivity. Energy is provided by a high-power thermoelectric chip, which generates power both from the athlete's body and the ambient temperature.

FANs Cam is a 2012 red dot award: design concept entry.

Computing Is Entertainment

Posted: 30 Oct 2012 09:55 AM PDT

Insights to the paradigm shift in home computing have led to the development of the Microsoft KeyFlex. The device is a modern way to epitomize home computing with organic manipulations to the keyboard like instead of just pressing buttons the user has to bend, squeeze, twist and flex the device. To elaborate further, instead of tapping the "volume up" key several times you just bend the device upwards.

Features:

  • The device can be bent upwards and downwards to raise/lower volume.
  • By pressing a "modifier-key" at the same time the action of bending gets assigned to another function (for example fast forwarding a movie).
  • The device can also be twisted to for example pause or escape.
  • When using social media the user can squeeze either the right or left side to "share" or "like".
  • Under the smooth surface lies an E-ink touch screen and a piezo-actuator.
  • Etchings in the surface surround important functions but other than that the whole interface is screen based.
  • This means that you can customize the keyboard layout, language, font size and so on very easily.

The latest addition to the Gaga & Design woven furniture collection the COD series of chairs inspired by a passion to preserve the age old craft. The structure of the weave is created with a twilling technique to create an angular 3D matrix that is at once modern and rooted in tradition. There an excellent addition to modern spaces needing a little warmth and are usable inside or out!

Dental Chair of the Future

Posted: 30 Oct 2012 12:44 AM PDT

I cringe just thinking about sitting in the chair at the dentist’s office, but I might feel just a little better (and trust the doc’s aesthetic) if it looked like this ultra-modern design by Valerio Tonel. The appearance is simplified and conceals all the complex parts, offering unrestricted clinical access while delivering patient support and comfort.
