Record and Relive Your Entire Life!

Posted: 19 Jun 2013 09:08 AM PDT

The problem with our fancy gadgets and social media is that it’s now easier than ever to get lost in documenting experiences rather than just experiencing them! While you’re clicking the record button, life is passing you by! This far-out video recording concept, the Nikon LIN, aims to capture life’s experiences without distraction, allowing the user to live freely and relive the experience later in 3D. How?! With a flying camera that floats above your head and sees everything you see! DO WANT!

The system actually consists of two elements- the first is the flying cam that captures 360 degree views in 3D, and the other is a wearable pin-cam that records experiences from the user’s perspective.

Simplifying Closure

Posted: 19 Jun 2013 03:18 AM PDT

The steps to storing and retrieving your laptop should be simple; but in all honesty are they? Right, thought as much…if we are to simplify the process then it has to be done in a clever convincing way. The AECRAFT MacBook Airfelt Sleeve is simple, clever and convincing!

The sleeves have one smart central opening that makes it easy for you to load and unload the laptop. No fumbly zips or tacky buttons; in a single sweep you can do the job thanks to the magnets!

It is hard to picture Nils, one half of the designer duo team behind Aecraft, as a lazy boy. This self-confessed geek is the creative mind while Carmen is the patient one. Her patience matches her talent for making things happen for real at Aecraft.

Nil's obsession to get things done better, fastest and with more beautiful results has lead to the creation of this classy Airfelt Sleeve. "We are surrounded by objects in our daily life; it gives me peace of mind to know that there is no other more effective way to achieve an action. This quest means to remove the fuzz to only keep the essence, the true nature of the product = the function, the tool." These words from Nils echo the very sentiments most new-age designers.

'The object should be the vehicle of the action.'

To be honest, it takes a little while to carefully tuck in your laptop, just to avoid the scratches and dents. I was careless enough to dent my previous laptop, simply because I invested in the wrong sleeve. I am glad that Nils and Carmen answered their calling and put in the sweat and tears into the Airfelt Sleeve. For now I have the option of investing in a top grade Merino Wool and premium vegetable tanned leather, handcrafted case that beams with the pride and joy of this designer duo.

I couldn't have summarized the effect of this sleeve as well as Nils has put it, so there you go… "Welcome to the nomadic way of life!"

Stradivarian Superyacht

Posted: 19 Jun 2013 12:01 AM PDT

We often call an object a Stradivari of its type to say its the finest example in existence, but this superyacht concept takes things another step, mimicking the design language of the famous stringed instrument itself. From neck to bow and hull to deck, the geometries of the violin were adapted to the technical requirements of the yacht, which designer Alex McDiarmid found were not as different as you might think…

Observing the construction of such stringed instruments, the designer noticed the striking similarities to superyacht construction. Evident from the outset was the pure craftsmanship of the very highest quality.

To reflect these characteristics, box and modular construction of the instruments main belly and back (the hull, bulwarks and bulkheads of the yacht) and the marriage of the tail piece, neck and scroll (the super structure) The bridge is of course the bridge. Various types of bows were examined and the three common types of violin bow heads (transitional, swan-bill head and pike-head) dictated the slight variations of the reverse bow of the ship. The tuning pegs on the neck of the instruments inspired anchor lockers, mooring guides and window graphics while the neck/hand area inspired a deep set hull window for a sensational view of the water from aboard.
The f-holes (sound holes) provide atrium like glazing inspiration while a huge, main deck with a curved glass wall at the aft allows natural day light inside.

Length: 120m / 393ft
Beam: 20m / 65ft
Owner state room and private decks
Berth capacity for guests 16 in 8 cabins
Berth capacity for crew 30
Power: Hybrid diesel electric propulsion system with pod drives, electric Voith Inline thrusters, Volvo Penta D16 MG gensets, Valance batteries
The hull is made from steel & superstructure aluminum.

Designer: Alex McDiarmid
