Hot Hatch

Posted: 09 Nov 2012 09:30 AM PST

I love me a hatchback and I love me a Tesla! The Tesla C captures the brand’s unique design language in a forward-thinking 2-door city car that lives up to the original’s sporting intentions. Features include an all-glass top, motorized oversize side doors that slide toward the front rather than swing open and an electric motor/lithium-ion battery system for sporty performance without sporty emissions. Aesthetically, it’s in line with Tesla’s modern design direction and would be a perfect addition to their limited line of roadsters and sedans.

Are You Flexible To Grate?

Posted: 09 Nov 2012 08:00 AM PST

The Flexita is a simple kitchen tool that makes food grating a whole lot easier. It transforms from two to three dimensions and is efficient to clean and store. It simply flattens when not in use and molds into a handy grip when needed. Crafted from harmonic steel, the metal that has a 'memory' and returns to its original flat shape after bending.

The handles and thin edge trim are made with polyethylene injected in a silicon mould, and these parts are recyclable. The steel is incredibly thin, at just 0.2 millimetres. The use of harmonic steel makes it possible to save 50% of the materials used for typical graters. The ease of washing the flat shape can also lead to water savings of up to 80% in comparison to typical graters. The minimal weight of the grater and its flat shape allows for efficient transportation.

Flexita is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winning entry.

Wanna Break Free!

The Free Socket is a clever design that marries the multi-tap, extension cord and USB socket into one convenient package. Basically it is a wall mounted electricity outlet that unhooks and can be used as a power extension. Keeping up with the current trends, USB charging is integrated into the plate and this is very clever. I love the practical aspect of the design and the fact that this design is do-able.

Free Socket is a 2012 iF Design Talents entry.

Lunar Timekeeper

Posted: 09 Nov 2012 12:01 AM PST

Inspired by the heavenly body nearest us, the Time & Space watch is a reminder that our very concept of time and space have long been defined by the moon. Real photographs of a full moon taken in Western France were used for the dial plate which is accented by traditionally shaped floating hands that appear as shadows against the surface. It’s a beautiful, modern reinterpretation of the watch that gives a nod to the very reason we even have them!

Solar Jelly!

The Jellyfish Light is a one-of-a-kind lighting design makes clever use of materials and utilizes suction and solar technologies to provide lighting just about anywhere. Inspired by the shape of the gooey creature, the silicon structure can be pressed on any smooth surface to create an internal vacuum that suctions in place. Solar panels collect energy from the sun so there are no batteries to worry about. Place it on the window to charge during the day and turn it on to see at night!

A Teddy Bear With A Smartphone Heart

Posted: 08 Nov 2012 05:20 PM PST

Remember Teddy Ruxpin? He brought all the boys to the yard to listen to him read a story from one of his convoluted adventures aboard an airship. The Cocolo Bear is Teddy Ruxpin 2012, although I’m pretty sure they’re unrelated because Cocolo comes from Japan. Cocolo talks to you, answers questions, and plays games thanks to his smartphone heart and app but otherwise is a glorified speaker phone. Parents can even leave messages for their kids. I need a reader from Japan to send me one PLEASE!
