2 Seamless Kitchens by Karim

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 09:34 AM PST

No, this isn’t the cockpit of the Starship Enterprise, but it is a space-age looking, futuristic vision of the modern kitchen that utilizes the extraordinary properties of HI-MACS acrylic stone. The smooth, 100% non-porous surface is ideal for use in the kitchen. Easy to clean, hygienic and extremely resistant to heat and chemicals, it’s especially suitable for food handling.

Kook Kitchen – The exclusive concept of this kitchen is distinguished by sinuous silhouettes and an entirely innovative ergonomic design, which was made possible due to the unique properties of HI-MACS which proved essential to facilitate the shape and functional requirements of the fab kitchen. The worktop used in the Kook model, which is more than 90 cm deep, allows an improved layout of the hob and sink zones, as well as making it more user-friendly. The starring role of the ambitious project by Karim Rashid, aside from the latest-generation acrylic stone, is light, with LEDs arranged underneath the worktop, which highlight the magenta coloured aluminium groove. There are also LEDs inside the wall unit which illuminate the edge of the glass, giving the kitchen a dramatic appearance.

Karan Kitchen – The concept of Karan on the other hand, is based on an island, with a tapered silhouette, which encourages conviviality. When not in use, the mixer tap and LED light withdraw into the worktop. The simple addition of a multi-purpose chopping board which fits over the sink creates a handy dining area. Soft curves continue on the kitchen’s wall-mounted unit. An opening with rounded edges provides a space for cooking and food preparation within the unit. Owing to the excellent thermoformability properties of HI-MACS®, which make it possible to form the material into an infinite range of shapes, and realise any designer's dream. Aran Cucine was able to produce, thanks to Karim Rashid’s visionary idea, two exclusive concepts featuring a soft and fluid design, of extraordinary beauty, whilst still adhering to hygiene and production issues.

Rock Paper Matchstick

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 03:59 AM PST

The Traveler’s Paper Kit is an amazing basic survival kit for travelers where ready tools are available and crafted from a sheet of paper. Folded into a pocket book-style sheet, the kit includes a waste basket, a solar compass (with a northern star chart on the reverse side) for finding north, a position maker (for retracing one's steps later), a reflective card (that can function as a distress signal), a finger-pressure therapy chart (for alleviating bodily pains through traditional Oriental palm-stimulation methods), a matchstick, and a cup.

Traveler’s Paper Kit is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.

Chapel of Simplicity

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 12:01 AM PST

When we hear the word “chapel,” we imagine a grandiose, highly stylized structures with heavy symbolism throughout. The Saint Francis Chapel is easily considered the antithesis to the ubiquitous design. Reduced to just the structural components, this small, concrete chapel is void of symbolism and distracting over-styling, making it essentially just a room for contemplation. Upon completing their reflections, visitors can ring a bell (the most complex element of the chamber) to conclude their experience.

Pretty Public Potty

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 12:01 AM PST

As useful as porta-potties might be for concerts, festivals and other events, they have become a symbol of… well… just plain nastiness! We’re long overdue for a new standard of portable restroom and the FACETOCH is a step in the right direction. The mobile unit includes both men’s and women’s facilities and utilizes solar energy and water recovery to operate while also focusing on privacy and hygiene. If nothing else, the aesthetic is just a helluva lot more inviting!

Friday Giveaway: LELO Dare Me Pleasure Set Featuring Luna Beads Noir

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 12:00 AM PST

Welcome to another great Friday Giveaway! This time around we have a sexy LELO Dare Me Pleasure Set up for grabs. One of the highlights of this set is the LUNA Beads Noir; those who have read the 50 Shades of Grey will be familiar with the beads. Essentially the LUNA Beads Noir are a part of the newly launched Dare Me Pleasure Set and a great way to enhance your woman’s pleasure; hit the jump to know how you can win this set.

Before the question, did you know that the LUNA Beads Noir is a redesign of the Ben Wa Balls? So in this context I asked the designers to elaborate the biggest challenge a designer faces when he has to redesign an inspired product.

LELO: The biggest challenge for any redesign has to be the innovative factor. Let me explain, for example the wheel has been around for thousands of years, so when tire companies had to redesign it, their biggest challenge was to redefine innovation in it. Thus materials, textures, durability and safety became the innovative factors.

Likewise with the LUNA Beads and the new LUNA Beads Noir. The Ben Wa beads have been around for a long time, so we cannot just re-invent it. We have to redefine it with innovative angles and experiences. What can we add or subtract to make this product better or more comfortable. Thus the LUNA Beads and LUNA Beads Noir embody features like style, safety, enhanced pleasure and yes, even color options.

Redefining the beads in these key areas have been our biggest challenge and we are glad that the outcome has been pleasurable sensations!

To Win the LELO Dare Me Pleasure Set, simply answer this:

  • Who is your inspiration in life and why?
