Posted: 08 Aug 2013 10:48 AM PDT Tools are designed to help solve our every day problems: measuring problems, bolt-tightening problems, furniture-assembling problems, rim-straightening problems, even bottle-opening problems. What separates a merely good tool from a truly great tool, though, is how well it does a job when it needs to be done; any tool is useless if it’s back home, downstairs or out in the garage when you really need it. Meet Tuls – a collection of compact, well-designed, card-sized tools created to solve a range of everyday problems, bundled in functionally complimentary sets, flat enough to ride on your keychain or in your wallet/purse. They’re designed to be there for you in those times when you can’t reach the tool you wish you had. Tuls are laser cut from 18 gauge stainless steel, about as thick and rigid as a US dime; tough, durable and built to last. Designers: Dave & Calvin Laituri, Kickstarter - Related posts: |
Functional Sculpture of Caffeinated Bliss! Posted: 08 Aug 2013 08:36 AM PDT No matter what time of year, there’s only one way I like my coffee… ICE COLD! But making a good iced coffee yourself is difficult given that a fresh brew is always hot, watering down the ice before you have a chance to enjoy. That was then, this is now! The Coffee Extract Tower is a sculptural, functional slow-drip coffee system that works overnight to create a concentrated coffee with an entirely different chemical profile than hot coffee that’s perfect for throwing over ice! Posted: 08 Aug 2013 01:54 AM PDT Ever been bogged by the cigarette or food odors that your clothes pick from the bar? A quick change or shower is quite cumbersome, which is why the funky Electrolux OZ-1is a good solution. The OZ-1 is a portable air purifier and stress reliever all integrated in a fashion piece. It sits neatly under the color of your shirt or can be flaunted like jewelry. The main purpose of the device is to purify the air that you breathe and at the same time distress via aroma therapy.
OZ-1 is a 2013 Electrolux Design Lab finalist entry. Designer: Wei Kiat Law - Related posts: |
Posted: 08 Aug 2013 01:43 AM PDT The KUKI-BIN satisfies our inherent urge to kick things around. It's a garbage bin that is placed underground, allowing you to not only thrown rubbish into the pit but also kick stuff in for a good measure. It basically just makes the act of cleaning your streets a bit more playful and even encouraging the kids to participate. Love It! Designers: Tsewang Gensapa & Mun Kim - Related posts: |
Posted: 08 Aug 2013 12:01 AM PDT One way we naturally determine the quality of our food is to give it a quick smell. But even our noses get it wrong sometimes! The Smeller works much in the same way, but with enhanced sensitivity. It picks up on the most minute of scents and compares them to a vast library to let the user know the exact condition of produce, meat and other foods. You can even share your smells on social media with just a click of a button! Designer: Hee Tae Yang - Related posts: |

Check em out and keep on the lookout for more from the designer’s latest release titled Machines of Adventure: Prologue. Designer: Mike Jelinek - Related posts:

Posted: 07 Aug 2013 01:23 PM PDT One of my earliest memories of my father has been to watch him carefully follow the protocols of his shaving rituals. Needless to say, when my brother was ready to try his hand, my father proudly shared his techniques and even gifted him his shaving mug as if it were a family heirloom. The Obtineo Shave Set strikes a nostalgic cord with me and I sure with guys too. Currently on its last leg for funding, let's know why this safety razor display shave mug is special. Obtineo is a sustainable product that can be handed down from generation to generation. Kinda treated like an heirloom. Taking little space on your bathroom countertop or the back of a toilet, this bathroom accessory hang dries your favorite daily razor and puts it on display proudly. It fits nicely into the palm of your hand while you use it to create your lather and it washes out clean every time. Its eco-friendly approach and ergonomic design makes it easy to handle. I'm a girl so I can't be a judge of it, but if Obtineo has intrigued you, then do buy one here and let me know how it works for you. Designer: Cory Roehl [ Preorder Here ] - Related posts: |
