Posted: 03 Jan 2013 09:43 AM PST Don’t be deceived by the nCycle’s minimal aesthetic- it’s actually loaded with tons of extras & innovative features that set a new standard for future e-bikes. The design scraps the classic tubular structure for a sleeker, lightweight, hollow-bodied shell that protects the inner electric drive system. Other features include a built-in pocket for small cargo, a bar-mounted locking system, integrated headlights & speakers, & even a holographic display. Check it out! nPower: nFold: nLock: nPocket: Headlights & Speakers: Electronic System: Designer: Hussain Almossawi & Marin Myftiu - No related posts. |
Good Design = Best IDEA! 2013 Registrations Are Open Posted: 03 Jan 2013 05:00 AM PST For more than three decades (33 to be precise) IDSA and IDEA Awards have stood for awarding excellence in the field of products, sustainability, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concept design. The 2013 registrations are now open with the Early Bird phase coming to an end pretty soon. What I really like about this award is that IDSA goes the extra mile to ensure designers get adequate exposure through exhibitions and tours. Last year they had one in Boston and one in Korea. For 2012, IDSA took it upon themselves to relay the message that "Good design is the basis for improved products, better business and a richer life." Every year some of the most innovative and thought-provoking products and concepts come out of the IDEA competition crowned as gold winners. These projects always leave us craving more information about the approach, their inspiration and what made them stand out from the other entries each category. IDSA has compiled an exclusive Q&As that addresses these queries in what they call "IDEA Insights" for 2012. Have a look.

Posted: 03 Jan 2013 01:11 AM PST So we have the Apple and Samsung stables feeding us tablets at a steady pace. And its sad to see one company that ruled the roost, i.e. Nokia, get derailed off the tracks. So if we let our imagination run wild (or rather Jupeng Zhai's) then this is how the next-gen Nokia Lumia Pad will look like. Not many concepts dedicated to Nokia these days, however this is one of those good ones. Designer: Jupeng Zhai

Posted: 03 Jan 2013 01:01 AM PST Ever been flustered by a broken or missing button right when you are ready to walk out the door? Ah, we have all been through this at one point in our lives. For those like me who detest sewing, the Pin Button is a good option. A plastic button is superimposed upon a metal pin, which you need to push in and secure (as shown in the video), thus releasing you from the clutches of needle and thread! Yes, this pin button is my savior! Designers: Kiho Jung and Mingyeon Jang - Related posts: |

The dual speakers connect at the face to create a capsule-shaped case that offers complete protection. To stream your tunes just untwist, plug, and play… when you’re finished snap together, throw it in your bag and go! Designer: Paulo Encarnação - Related posts: |
Posted: 03 Jan 2013 12:01 AM PST The Citi.Transmitter is a versatile urban-transportation concept that expands on the shared-vehicle solution by offering a mix of eco-friendly modular units for a variety of needs. Using an innovative smart-hitch system, users can easily attach modules to the primary 2-wheeled car to carry more passengers or cargo. About a 4th of the size of standard cars, the ultra-compact vehicle makes getting around heavily congested cities a cinch! Designer: Vincent Chan - Related posts: |
Water Filter Too Beautiful To Hide Posted: 02 Jan 2013 01:01 PM PST The Soma is by far the most beautiful water filter to date. The pitcher looks more like a carafe which in my mind is more inviting to drink from, not to mention the minimalist design makes it perfect to leave out on the counter. The Soma addresses a number of issues I have with other filters. It’s made of glass. There’s no flap on the lid to easily break off and the filtration system is made of coconut shells, silk, and PLA plastic. If there’s a question on whether or not this is as effective as carbon, the filter was designed by David Beeman, THE man when it comes to filtering water. With 30 years experience in the industry, he’s created filtration systems for Starbucks, Peets and other global brands. The company claims water actually tastes more crisp compared to traditional carbon filters. We haven’t tried it ourselves since it’s a Kickstarter project but with 9 days left, there’s still plenty of time to get you hands on one for less than what it will probably cost retail.
