The Keyboards And Coasters Story Posted: 20 Nov 2012 09:41 AM PST The first thing that I added to my workstation, when I became a serious online writer, was a set of coasters. Coffee mugs, water bottle and last minute sandwich plates have a knack of leaving a stain and messing up a perfectly clean table-top. Hence to maintain the sanctity of my sacred space, a coaster became a must. If you are as finicky about keeping your desk as spotless as me, then the Keyboard Coasters is a quirky solution that I recommend. Perhaps it's that geek-quotient of keyboard design that is striking, nevertheless, it's worth a try. Package includes a set of 4 coasters: 2 black coasters and 2 white coasters Designer: Yujin Ono [ Available @ YD Store for $20 ] Keyboard Coasters by Yujin Ono are available @ YD Store for $20 - Related posts: |
Posted: 20 Nov 2012 09:36 AM PST Winter is officially here and even those of us in sunny SoCal are looking forward to playing in the snow! Now, if only we could get our hands on New Zealand based design company 4DESIGN’s Stealth-X snow sled. This super lightweight, monocoque sled is made entirely of carbon fiber to enhance its strength. Sitting in a position similar to an F1 car, the rider leans as they would a motorcycle to navigate turns at a top speed of 40MPH. It’s so maneuverable it can be skidded to a stop just like a snowboard. Leave it to the Kiwis! When you’re done with your run, simply fold it up and carry in your backpack! Posted: 20 Nov 2012 12:01 AM PST It would appear that the way to lead with light might soon be by way of crutch – at least that’s how the designers behind the Leader would have it. The full name of these devices is “Leader Outdoor Crutches” and their designers, Cathy Wen and Linxi Lee, have made it clear that there will be no more darkness on the trail as long as they’re at the head of the pack. Leader Outdoor Crutches aim to not just allow you to make your way through the woods with that extra bit of push up on the stick, but with some much-needed illumination at night as well. Just pop in the lamp and you’ll be headed to your camp site in no time. This invention would certainly save us some stumble time heading up the stairs after some late-night laundry too, mind you – perhaps a home edition is in order! Posted: 20 Nov 2012 12:01 AM PST This modern pendant lamp, named Medusa, was inspired by the majestic jellyfish and mimics its elegant form and colorful fluorescence. Similar to the way the tissue of the jellyfish disperses light, the Medusa lamp creates a vibrant, directional glow from within its bell-shaped shade. Colorful translucent strands, visible only when looking into the shade, allude to tentacles and create a filtering effect with a spectrum of light intensities and magenta tones. Tron-inspired smartphone hits The Grid Posted: 20 Nov 2012 12:01 AM PST Designer Wooseok Suh is coming on correct today with a lovely smartphone device by the name of “Another World”, made right out of the box to present an entirely new environment for you lovers of the unique. This smart device could be called a smartphone or it could simply be called an electronic touch device – it breaks barriers either way. Have a peek at how this device not only shows off its abilities in such a simple way that we don’t even have to explain how it works, but also keeps a perfectly clean aesthetic for fashionability as well. The movie Tron comes to mind simply because of the black and transparent grid run through with glowing light lines – otherwise this lovely amalgamation of wonder is all from the mind of Suh. The World’s Smallest Recessed Light! Posted: 20 Nov 2012 12:01 AM PST The 1PUCK LP! The whole idea behind landscape and recessed lights was to hide them, right?! Well, most in use are still large and unsightly – except this amazingly miniature design. Barely the diameter of a US half-dollar, but as powerful as standard lights, the 1PUCK makes lighting subtly a cinch. Embed it in the floor, hide it in the walls or mount it on the ceiling for directed light that won’t intrude on your aesthetic. Get it here! Designed to run on standard 12 volt DC, plug-and-play on photovoltaic systems, and is designed to run on discarded electronic waste, such as old cellphone chargers, laptop chargers, etc., anywhere between 9 volt and 15 volt DC. You Got That Super Bass, Ceramic Subwoofer Posted: 19 Nov 2012 12:24 PM PST I wrote about Joey Roth’s Ceramic Speakers way back when and reviewed it. Hell, I even own a set connected to an Airport Express to enable Airplay. It’s been my main setup in the bedroom for years but due to Joey’s own desires to expand the line or calls to improve the speakers’ bass response, there’s an accompanying ceramic subwoofer to complete the setup. I’ve yet to hear it in person but plan to very soon post holiday shenanigans. Hit the jump for deets! The Ceramic Subwoofer extends your system's frequency response down to 40 Hz. While you will physically feel bass-heavy music, you'll also notice new richness in vocals and acoustic instruments. The sound is neither boomy nor aggressive, but a balanced completion of the Ceramic Speakers. Stainless steel, porcelain, and Baltic birch plywood make up the Ceramic Subwoofer's enclosure. Aside from the electronic components, plastic is completely avoided in the system's construction. Adding the Ceramic Subwoofer is as easy as plugging in headphones. The subwoofer's amp connects directly to the Ceramic Speakers' small amp with a single included cable. The source is connected to the subwoofer's RCA input, where the internal crossover sends the mid and high frequencies to the speakers and the low frequencies to the subwoofer. The Ceramic Subwoofer improves the detail and clarity of the original Ceramic Speakers by taking on the low frequencies that they would normally have to play. This allows the smaller speakers to focus on midrange and high frequencies. The crossover is adjustable from 40 Hz to 200 Hz. The Ceramic Subwoofer benefits from two drivers: one is an active driver that's powered by the amplifier, and the other is a tuned passive radiator. The passive radiator moves in correspondence with the pressure changes caused by the active driver. This extends the subwoofer's bass response without sacrificing detail or precision, a trade-off that's often made with bass reflex designs.
