Shady Seating

Posted: 23 Jul 2012 09:39 AM PDT

This clever seating series by Duffy London is sure to get plenty of head turns as it plays with the viewer’s perception! Each chair, has a permanent, unwavering shadow that acts not only as a visual peculiarity, but an integral part of the cantilevered support structure. Chairs appear to balance on two legs and, complimented by various shadow characters, it’s almost believable!

Mobile Pavilion Car

Posted: 23 Jul 2012 05:30 AM PDT

Designer Sean Seongjun Ko describes his Inner City Vehicle as a mobile pavilion that resembles an urban cocoon. A vehicle in which people can relax and enjoy a comfortable ride, in a ‘classic yet modern’ design that romanticizes the future. The compact 4-seater vehicle fits into the sustainable environment of the future city by using hydrogen fuel cell technology. The designing use autonomous technology, and the interior space is very flexible; the seating layout also differs from the usual norm where every passenger faces single direction.

As the designer explains, "The interior design of the vehicle takes inspiration from wavy and sliced sculptures. Each sliced part has different curves and combination of these parts creates different forms, which allow different sitting positions and application of various materials."

Eye Dropper With A Difference

Posted: 23 Jul 2012 05:05 AM PDT

One of the key things that eye specialists warn you about while using eye drops, is to wash your hands before handling the bottle and never to share the eye medicine. This is mainly to contain the infection from spreading and to ensure you have a speedy recovery. Easy Eye Drops is an eye medicine dropper redesign that allows you to dispense the liquid into your eye using just one hand. Generally, we need one hand to pull open the eyelids and the other to dispense the liquid, this redesign does it all in one go, making it safer and more hygienic.

As a person who gets eye infection pretty often due to regular contact lens usage, I think the design is pretty clever, especially when you have no one around to help you with the meds.

Easy Eye Drops is a 2012 IDEA Awards entry.

Bright and Bendy!

Gotta love this minimal, interactive lamp design by Gergő Kassai. The Motion lamp’s bendable, ultra-thin body is composed of an OLED embedded in free-form silicone that makes it possible to twist and turn the lamp in any direction. The playful design will have you wondering why you can’t keep your hands off it!
