Posted: 03 Oct 2013 09:37 AM PDT With the holiday season right around the corner, here’s a sculptural take on the Christmas tree for anyone who doesn’t like the idea of chopping down trees for short term decoration. One Two Tree is produced from sustainably grown Australian hoop pine plywood. It’s also shipped flat-packed, ready to assemble in seconds. The user can move the adjustable branches to create their own design or give them a spin for a random look! Designers: Lucy and Antony Aris

Posted: 03 Oct 2013 06:00 AM PDT Every year, in a competition we call Challenge Dyson, Dyson engineers are given a design brief outside their everyday job. It's our way of encouraging engineers to stretch the bounds of their imagination and follow through on improbable ideas. It's this "wrong thinking" approach that has led to Dyson's most important inventions. This year's brief: engineer a machine that can fly and navigate a course made from Dyson parts (looks similar to a drone!). The overall winner in Dyson Malmesbury was a team called Beeline. Beeline is a quadcopter inspired by Ross Lovegrove's engineering principle of "fat free design" which reduces the design to its minimal essential elements – function over form. The key to its success was keeping weight to a minimum including using brushless motors similar to Dyson's digital motor. The stability and control provided by the four propellers and built in 3-axis gyro and accelerometer allowed pilot, Darren Lewis to steer the aircraft to victory. Posted: 03 Oct 2013 02:22 AM PDT Thanks to the development of phosphorescence in glass and ceramic glazing, it is possible to make the edges of the toilet, basin and bath highlighted. It kinda adds a cool funk to your bath time fun! The bath outlet features a push bar above the gentle stream of hot water, which runs down the side of the bath, thus reducing heat loss through the environment. As for the tech aspect, phosphorescence is recharged during sunlight hours and this gives off a soft glow through the night for up to about 8 hours. In Case Of Emergency… Smash The Glass Posted: 03 Oct 2013 01:01 AM PDT Based on the principles of a slingshot, the Escape Shot is a handy tool that helps you break the glass of the bus’s window, when trapped in an accident. The tool is simple to operate and doesn't require much force to shatter the glass. Fashioned in such a way that both women and children can use it easily, this tool is a must-have for all buses. Posted: 03 Oct 2013 12:01 AM PDT The flip-top soda can has remained unchanged for decades, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t improvements to be made! The iCan explores new solutions for spilling prevention, keeping carbonation fresh and eliminating harmful bacteria with an aluminum twist top that uses a similar amount of material as the classic tab. Gotta see the vid to see how it works! Designer: Rocky Bettis & Brian Bettis - No related posts. |
Posted: 03 Oct 2013 12:01 AM PDT Bissol’s latest mobile timepiece is an elegant addition to the iPhone 5(s) that merges a classic timepiece to the modern smartphone. The 2000 Calibre here features an automatic mechanical Swiss movement suspended by a unique single bridge. Its precision one-piece construction allows the user to see the inner workings of the clock in an interesting contrast to the minimal, enclosed look of the iPhone. Designer: Bissol - Related posts: |
