Posted: 08 Apr 2013 10:37 AM PDT Showering is supposed to be a catharsis of the day and of our daily environmental exposure. The last thing we should be dirtying up is our conscience with wasteful habits like using up way too much life-giving water. The “Sshower” for Roca was conceived by designer Marco Antonio Esquiró San Román for that very reason. With built in sensors that can automatically detect when you are actually under the shower head, this shower will turn of the stream and replace it with steam until you are ready to rinse off. But wait, there is more! While you are being a good and clean Earthling, you can also be informed as to the day’s weather, stock prices, how much water you are using and even what song is up next for your foam party for one. Of course its Bluetooth and Wifi ready, but then again…what isn’t these days? Designer: Marco Antonio Esquiró San Román - Related posts: |
Posted: 08 Apr 2013 09:13 AM PDT Like something straight out of a science fiction horror movie, the UB1K chair touches on the darker side of futurism with its alien, scaly, organic aesthetic. The tripodal design appears muscular… flexing to pounce at any moment. It’s a bit menacing but nonetheless captivating. Designer: Edward Kim - Related posts: |
Necessity, The Mother Of An Innovative Mug Posted: 08 Apr 2013 03:07 AM PDT Designer 'Scott ' observed that the coffee and tea drinkers at the hawker center in Singapore were served their 'teh' (tea) or 'kopi' (coffee) in local styled cups, sans saucers. The problem with this is that the beverage is served using condensed milk, which is heavy and settles at the bottom of the cup. As a result the coffee-drinker has to stir the drink several times, and this gets annoying since they have no sanitary place to put down their spoon, and have to place it inside their cup. The NOTA Coffee Mug allows the user to keep the spoon within their cup, tucked into a niche. This ways the coffee drinker gets to enjoy their drink without the spoon annoying them. Simple and clever! The Automotive Inspired Xetum Kendrick Watch Posted: 08 Apr 2013 01:05 AM PDT April is a month of frenzy in the world of watches, mainly because of Baselworld, the Mecca for watch-enthusiasts. Living up to the expectations, is San Francisco-based luxury watch startup Xetum Automatic Watches with their latest offering, the Xetum Kendrick. While I appreciate well-designed watches very much, I am more passionate about the ones that tell a story. The good news is that Xetum Kendrick is both well designed and has a good story to tell. Designed in California and made in Switzerland, just like the rest of its siblings in the Xetum collection, the Xetum Kendrick is inspired by automotive instruments, which guide the design. So while the designers looked towards dashboards that made a strong statement, the direction they took was in favor of a design that was uncluttered and subtle in execution. These elements are reflected both on the dial and with the watch hands. The Xetum Kendrick is purposely modern in design and comes in bold colors of red and blue. This is a significant departure from their previous collections, which were mainly in monochromatic scheme. The watches come teamed with matching NATO straps and a black rubber strap, all exclusive to the Kendrick. In line with the spring/summer collection! Besides the automotive accents to the design, the other story that Xetum essays is their commitment to the environment. All Kendrick watches come in a watch-box crafted out of solid rubberwood. This environmentally friendly wood is harvested from the trees that have already lived their lifespan and are on their way to be used as firewood. So instead of being reduced to ashes, they are used to craft boxes, thus extending their purposeful life. And of course the watch has been christened "Kendrick", commemorating a peak of a summit in Yosemite. While the watch may be Swiss-made, there are subtle hints pointing towards the home state as well. The Xetum Kendrick collection features bold automotive-inspired dials, paired with NATO or rubber straps – a distinctive new look for the Xetum collection.

Posted: 08 Apr 2013 12:07 AM PDT It’s a car, it’s a yacht, it’s a plane…it’s Poursuivreve! A vehicle aimed at challenging our concept of how to get around both practically and aesthetically. The Poursuivreve’s stylistic call back to old time race cars, combined with its modern cockpit-like frame make it a sight for all generations and its aerodynamic angles and lipo battery-powered system spell its environmental premise. With the Poursuivreve you can ride in style while saving the planet. Designer: Yutong Wu - Related posts: |
Posted: 08 Apr 2013 12:01 AM PDT Daan Roosegarde’s modern zen garden, “Boo,” brings a lil eastern influence and a mystical world of light/sound to the courtyard of Hotelschool the Hague in Amsterdam. A walk through the forest of 6-meter high pillars reveals an interactive experience where LED lights and cricket sounds follow and play with the viewer as they move. When the common square is empty, the “Boo ghost” awakes and wonders through the garden, triggering the lights to play with each other, creating a visual story viewable from afar.
