A’ Design Awards & Competition 2013 – Last Call for Entries Posted: 14 Feb 2013 07:33 AM PST Hope you are settled into the week and enjoying Valentine's Day! Here's just another friendly reminder that the 2013 A’ Design Awards & Competition will be closing their submissions on February 28, 2013. Make most of this upcoming weekend and submit your projects to any of these categories: Product Design, Transportation Design, Lighting, Digital Devices, Packaging Design Category; the complete list of categories is here. Amongst the various benefits of participating in the A’ Design Awards, the key ones that come to my mind are the exclusive exhibition, entry in the yearbook, comprehensive PR and Publicity, world design rankings inclusion and the gala-night for networking!

Posted: 14 Feb 2013 06:00 AM PST The Gift Of The Magi is a great story involving love, combs and long tresses, which brings me to the product of the day – hairbrushes. We all own one, but how many of us actually sanitize ours on a regular basis? Right, not many! So how about a MagicComb; a very skillfully designed brush that winds up its bristles in such a way that all fallen, tangled hair come off easily! Posted: 14 Feb 2013 05:48 AM PST Ok, that makes no sense but I like the ring to it! Anyways, here are two very cool and complimenting projects by our man Kévin Depape. One is the Mamba Lamp and the other is the Elastik Desk. While the Mamba plays on the on the archetype of a lamp by questioning its components; the Elastik revisits the traditional home desks while being inspired by the old classroom desks with storage on top. Mamba is a lamp where the wire, which is often hidden or little, is highlighted on the lamp. The Elastik is a desk that allows you to store books, papers, folders and to route the cables through the storage slots. Designer: Kévin Depape - Related posts: |
Posted: 14 Feb 2013 12:01 AM PST Literally… Granny’s got mad steez in this sexy modern rocker! Characterized by it’s oversized curvilinear form, each part is hand-shaped and seamlessly bound to create a robust, sinuous aesthetic. To soften things up, the design features a blanket adapted to cover the back and seat for cushioning and specialized side flaps that wrap over the user’s lap for comfort and warmth. Something doesn’t seem right here…. Posted: 14 Feb 2013 12:01 AM PST … but that’s the intention! The Equilibrium collection by Andre Cruz has a simplistic, utilitarian aesthetic that is given a sense of lightness and clever character with oddly placed legs. The bulk of each design appears to be supported by just a tiny edge of each leg, creating a striking visual sensation, but in actuality it’s a hidden metal support that stabilizes each corner. The unique construction allows for interesting geometries and angular accents that contrast with the bare upper portions. Designer: Andre Cruz - No related posts. |
Posted: 14 Feb 2013 12:01 AM PST The U-Plug aims to enhance the functionality of the electrical plug by reducing the overall number of parts while maintaining safety and ease of use. Besides flexing to fit a variety of outlets, the universally adaptable design also doubles as a socket for another like-plug and provides a safer, tactile grip that can be unplugged with a single finger. Less parts means it’s also cheaper to produce and replace! Designer: Suraj Patel - Related posts: |
