Posted: 28 Mar 2012 06:59 AM PDT A proud moment for James Cameron and his path breaking dive into the Marina Trench! While we still come to grips with the implication of his journey, it's quite apparent than our fascination nature and the elements have a deep-rooted effect on inspiration. Take for example the Manta Pendant Lamp; clearly inspired by the beautiful fish, this gorgeous lamp is not only a design exercise but also a statement of our passion for exploration. Posted: 28 Mar 2012 06:32 AM PDT It was an 'a-ha' moment when Toshi Fukaya realized that there is more to a cat's paw than just fur, paw-pads and claws. The act of withdrawing the claws and exposing them inspired the creation of Biomimicry Drawing Pin. The sharp pin is sheathed by a hollow pad (or bubble) of malleable silicone and exposes the pin only when the drawing pin is pressed into the board. The idea is to create a safer pin for use. Like Fukaya explains, "It regains its former shape (and sheaths the pin) when the drawing pin is pulled out. The 'push' side is composed of solid silicon that covers the drawing pin's plastic handle." Biomimicry Pin is a 2011 red dot design concept winner. Designer: Toshi Fukaya - Related posts: |
Posted: 28 Mar 2012 01:10 AM PDT Gotta love this straightforward desk lamp design! One look at the Slide Lamp and the user will instantly understand how to adjust it. The aluminum base and natural oak components form a triangle with slots that make it easy to slide elements and adjust the lamp’s height and position. Designer: Peter van de Water - Related posts: |
Posted: 28 Mar 2012 12:58 AM PDT The Möbius Shaver, inspired by the unique qualities of the möbius strip, is a unique take on the simple razor that is as puzzling as it is visually stunning. The 1mm stainless steel handle forms a continues band that half-twists at the end to create tension and increased sturdiness. Though it’s an altered form of the common razor, it’s just as ergonomic. Gyroscopic Transportation of the Future Posted: 28 Mar 2012 12:39 AM PDT This futuristic transportation concept was designed for the urban commuter looking for an entirely new and unique driving experience. With just two wheels, the glass-dome cabin is self-balancing and can be controlled with a joystick instead of a steering wheel. You might say it’s kinda like the auto (and much cooler) version of a Segway! Designer: Sanu K R - Related posts: |
