Posted: 26 Oct 2011 01:11 AM PDT Apparently plastic bags are a resourceful means to collect morning dew and many mountaineers use it to collect water. Needless to say, not all climbers are conscientious enough to carry back their litter, and as a result many of our peaks are getting polluted. To offer a better alternative, we have here the Succulent Concept, a mock up of a succulent plants. It helps collect and filter in the morning dew, directly into a bottle and is easily portable. The Succulent is a 2011 Liteon Award entry. Designer: Yu-ru Chen ---------- |
Posted: 26 Oct 2011 01:01 AM PDT On the lines of the dÂșlight Huggable pillow (makes an excellent Christmas present), we have here the In Soft pillow. The difference lies in the intuitive way the lights go on and off with a simple touch. Thanks to the LED lights used, heat is no longer a problem with touching lighting interfaces. Would love me one, just to celebrate this special occasion of Diwali…the ultimate festival of lights! Happy Diwali YD readers! The In Soft is Koizumi Lighting Award winner. Posted: 26 Oct 2011 12:02 AM PDT So my birthday was this week, and all I wanna know is who is going to get me this chair?! Gotta love Thomas Feichtner’s latest, the M3 chair. This geometric piece exhibits an open, wooden cantilever construction that highlights not only the tension between closed and open, heavy and light, and surface and line, but also the symbiosis between traditional workmanship and contemporary design. Though it may not be space saving, it’s sure to complete any existing space. Designer: Thomas Feichtner ---------- |
Posted: 26 Oct 2011 12:01 AM PDT PicsaHouse, the latest from Kassen Lifestyle, is a unique and cost-effective prefab housing solution that looks to relieve some of the problems with current housing systems. Most prefab houses use the same techniques as stud-fram building, leading to the same inherent structural and insulation issues, but the PicsaHouse has adapted techniques from bridge building, making it quick to build while requiring less maintenance over time… exactly how a prefab should be. Bridge sections, careful waterproofing, carefully placed awnings, and reinforced concrete maximize insulatory capacity while making the house durable and diminishing heating and cooling costs. The stackable bridge sections also make it possible to expand a single level home to two-stories simply by adding a stairwell unit to the lower portion and a modular section on top. Posted: 26 Oct 2011 12:01 AM PDT Juha-Pekka Rautio’s Citroen CCrab concept is a small electric vehicle designed for zipping around efficiently in city traffic. Like the name suggests, the CCrab also takes inspiration from the crab, and is able to move sideways with individually powered wheels that turn independently. The CCrab also draws inspiration from the quick and precise maneuvers of footballers – not a bad place to start considering that rush hour can often be like a mad game of running and dodging.
